This thesis explores the embodiment processes I have experienced during my study period of violin in guru-shishya parampara (master-disciple tradition) with Prof. Dr. V. Balaji, in Varanasi, India. I investigate the issue as a case study through examining his teaching methodology, pedagogical approach, the spiritual/religious setting in Dr. V. Balaji's space, and the mutual engagement by both the teacher and the student. Reviewing the works about Asian music and embodiment until now, with this research, I hope to fill the gap of an elaborate up-to-date study focusing on the transmission of musical knowledge with an embodiment approach.
