Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a computer software system that has ability to integrate the majority of a company’s separate business facets such as accounting, finance, human resources, sales, manufacturing, marketing, distribution etc. on a single database in order to provide a more effective and efficient use of the company’s resources by organizing and arranging the data coming from different departments in an orderly and useful manner. In this paper, ERP systems are suggested for construction companies in order to improve customer relationships, to strengthen supply chain partnerships, to enhance organizational flexibility, to improve decision making capabilities, and to reduce project completion time and cost. In the scope of the study, the definition and the concept of ERP with historical development and progress from bills of materials and production trees to advanced enterprise resource planning systems, main features, impact and importance and ERP implementation phases in the firms are clarified. ERP system solutions for many of the common construction industry problems, examples being insufficient and/or lack of communication, lack of integration, and lack of coordination in a project between people and/or departments are also examined. A Turkish firm’s ERP implementation process is investigated including the decision phase, the software package choosing phase, the implementation phase and the usage phase. In the usage phase, a sample project planning is analyzed by using SAP – PS Module and the evaluations are made according to the usage of PS in the construction company. Consequently, a general evaluation is conducted concerning the needs and the implementation potentials of an ERP system in the Turkish construction industry.
