This study is a hermeneutic-phenomenological attempt for understanding the in-between as a mode of spatio-temporal performance in terms of spatial continuity in vernacular Anatolian settlements. Today, the framing, calculative and representative mode of cognitive world breaks the embeddedness of man and place leading to the weakening of spatial performance codified through the process of production of space. As a place of openings the in-between, where interior/exterior, up/down, now/then situations are not side by side constellations but a belonging togetherness of everyday life might open a way up in order to resist to the conceptual and formal codes. The in-between, revealing this belonging togetherness in the courtyards, streets, thresholds of vernacular Anatolian settlements are being traced through Anatolian folk songs called türkü as poetic thinking in Anatolian everyday life, an authentic thinking in Martin Heidegger’s philosophy. A spatio-temporal phenomenology by türkü, that might be regarded as a mode of “measure-taking” a critical phrase in Heidegger’s thinking, is poetic thinking folded through sounds, words, colors and smell. The poetic thinking of the in-between is being searched through the phenomenon of “frontness” in the motif of “in the front of their home” in many türkü. As an actual case a couple of vernacular middle-Anatolian settlements, Germir, Darsiyak, Reşadiye, Nize and Talas, are being studied. This “frontness” revealing the spatio-temporal modes builds up the in-between that gives the sense of “being-at-home” through meetings of everyday life in the whole settlement.
