Kentte Kamusal Mekân Örüntüleri: Beyoğlu Örneği

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, kamusal alan ve mekân kavramları tarihsel gelişimleri ile birlikte irdelenmiş, kamusal mekânın değişen kentteki durumu ele alınmıştır. Yapılan literatür araştırması sonucunda kentte formel ve informel olmak üzere farklı kamusal mekân örüntülerinin varlığı tespit edilmiş, bunlar informel kamusal mekânlar, üçüncü yerler ve sanatçı mekânları başlıkları altında değerlendirilmiştir. Bütüncül olarak ele alınan ve mevcut kent dokusunun içine sızarak yeni bir kamusal mekân örüntüsü yaratan bu mekânların Türkiye ve özellikle İstanbul’daki karşılıklarını araştırmak amacıyla Beyoğlu’nda bir alan çalışması yürütülmüştür. Alan çalışmasının sonucunda, bu mekânların, sürekli bir üretimin ve anlamlandırmanın merkezi olarak kent mekânının kendiliğinden kamusallaşabileceğinin birer göstergesi olduğu belirlenmiştir, kente yapılan müdahalelerde dikkate alınmalarının gerekliliği görülmüştür.

In this study the notions of public sphere and public space were examined along with their historical development and the condition of public space in the changing city was discussed. As the result of the literature research, different networks of public spaces were discovered and were classified as formal and informal. These were evaluated under the notions of informal public spaces, third places and artist-run spaces. A fieldwork was carried out in order to search for the solid expressions in Turkey and especially in Istanbul, of these concepts that have been discussed with a holistic approach and create a new public space network by diffusing into the present city pattern. As a result of the fieldwork, it is seen that these spaces indicate that the city space, which is the center of a continuous production and creation of meaning, can be made public per se and these spaces should be taken into consideration during the projects developed for the city.
