Abstract

Bilim ve teknikteki gelişmeler sonucu mühendislik malzemeleri sürekli çoğalmakta, yepyeni üstün özellikleri olan malzemeler ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu durumda problem haline gelen malzeme seçiminde bilgisayarların yardımı kaçınılmaz hale gelmiştir. 70' li yılların ortalarında malzeme seçimini daha hızlı, sağlıklı bir hale getiren ve üretilen en yeni malzemeleri tanıtan ONLINE veritabanları hizmete girmeye başlamıştır. Günümüzde veritabanları en güçlü kütüphanelerle boy ölçüşebilecek niteliktedir. ülkemizde ne yazık ki bu konuda bir çalışma yapılmamıştır. Türk standartlarına göre çelik seçimi yapan program bu eksiği biraz gidermek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. En önemli özelliği de hurda malzemeleri en uygun biçim de değerlendirme imkanı sağlamasıdır. Hazırlanan program kişisel mikro bilgisayarlar için düşünülmüştür. Çelik kayıtlarını içeren veritabanı 240 adet kayıttan oluşmaktadır.

As science and technology advances, the variability of engineering materials increases. New and better performance materials are discovered. As a result, the problem of material selection arises. Computers have been a wide solution to this and other similar problems. One most consider expenses due to poor selection, adequate information for correct selection and low cost materials which provide better performance. In the mid 70' s to use of On Line databases for material selection was made possible. To this day, this method now provides more efficient, faster and higher quality selection. As more and more materials are discovered, this method is cotinously updated. The information capacity of the Databank is comparable to that of a large library. In Turkey however, such computer aided material selection had not been made until recently. For the first time under the Turkish Standards a steel selection program has been made possible. This program is not On Line however. But instead has been developed such that it may be used on a personal computer. If the composition of the steel is known, this program is able to find the steel designation number. This is the most important, feature of this program and was written using dBASE III Plus. This database program contains more than 240 steel records. The design will prove to be most efficient and easy to use for mechanical engineers. This steel selection program is a Turkish Standards based databank of numerical information. It can help you with, * Finding the all properties of a particular alloy such as, physical, mechanical properties and chemical composition and the others. * Finding an alloy which meets certain composition requirements eg. Steel with manganese 0.6 - 2.00, and a maximum of 0.05 sulphur and 0.5 silicon. * Turkish Standards - oriented selecting eg. listing of free cutting steels. The information in this program is derived from published literature and Turkish Standards.
