PAAm- κC, PAAm- PNIPAAm, and PAAm- MWNT composite gels have been prepared by free radical crosslinking copolymerization. The steady state fluorescence (SSF) technique was employed for gelation, drying and swelling. Pyranine was used as a fluorescence probe during gelation, drying and swelling. Fluorescence spectra from the bounded pyranines allowed us to monitor the sol- gel phase transition, and to test the universality of the sol- gel transition as a function of monomer contents. The universality of gelation of the composite gel was modeled by the classical and percolation theory. Drying and swelling processes were analyzed as a function of contents of monomers and temperature. Desorption coefficients were calculated from the moving boundary diffusion model combined with the Stern- Volmer on the drying process. Collective diffusion coefficients and the Li-Tanaka time constants were calculated from the Li-Tanaka model combined with the Stern- Volmer on the swelling process. Furthermore, the results of fluorescence measurements were supported by gravimetrical and volumetric experiments. Elasticity measurements of the swollen composite gels were performed at different temperatures and concentrations. The elastic modulus of the composite gels was determined from the slope of the linear portions of compression stress- strain curves. The elasticity of the composite gels and its universality were modeled by the theory of elasticity. Lastly, the electrical conductivity measurements of PAAm- MWNT composite gels were studied as a function frequency and the contents of MWNT. The thesis including the searching experimentally and modeling of the universality of gelation and elasticity, drying, swelling, the behavior of elasticity and conductivity of PAAm- κC, PAAm- PNIPAAm, and PAAm- MWNT composite gels by using steady state fluorescence, tensile testing and dielectric spectroscopy technique is the first according to the literature.
