dc.description.abstract This dissertation introduces Entheo-Musicking, a concept that explores the interplay between music and entheogenic practices in sacred, healing, and transformative contexts. Through a combination of theoretical inquiry and personal fieldwork experiences, this study investigates how music operates as a vital force in facilitating altered states of consciousness, emotional healing, and spiritual connection. Drawing from diverse traditions, including Sufi sema (whirling), shamanic Ayahuasca ceremonies, and the Dances of Universal Peace, the research examines how these practices use rhythm, melody, and collective musicking to invoke deep emotional and somatic responses. The research highlights the process of musicking as a dynamic, interactive activity that goes beyond mere performance, positioning it as a powerful medium for personal and communal transformation. Key themes such as entrainment, flow states, and the integration of music with entheogens are discussed, showing how these practices enhance well-being, self-awareness, and a sense of unity. Through auto-ethnographic reflections and phenomenological analysis, the dissertation provides insights into the role of music in inducing trance states and guiding participants through healing processes. In addition to theoretical insights, the research suggests a practical application through rhythm circles and sema-inspired dance forms, where participants engage in somatic music-making practices to enhance emotional release and connection. These suggested practices are grounded in scientific evidence from somatic studies, mindfulness, and music therapy, offering a framework for integrating musicking into everyday life as a tool for healing and personal growth. Ultimately, this work argues that Entheo-Musicking has the potential to expand our understanding of the sacred and therapeutic dimensions of music. It offers a new framework for exploring how music can facilitate transcendence, catalyze emotional release, and foster collective healing, invites scholars and practitioners interested in the intersection of music, spirituality, and healing to this holistic perspective.
