In this study, the perlite deposits is considered at north of Okçular village in Bigadiç-Balıkesir. It presents a thickness of 70-80m. maximum. The perlite generally has a darkish gray. It containers primarilly biotite, feldspar, inclusion-type perlite grains. The suitable of Okçular perlite in production of conventional soda-lime-silica glass instead of feldspar has been investigated in laboratory. The results of Okçular perlite based glass have been compared to high-quality perlites have been located in Demirci, Ilıpınar, Bergama, Karabiga and Ivrindi area in Western Anotolia. Turkish perlite ores are suitable in the production of amber and green container and float glass. The experimental results of amber colored container glass show that the chemical composition of perlite has a great advantage for color glass composition in comparison with that of feldspar due to its chemical durabiliy and workability. Besides, there is a difference between the perlite of Okçular based glass and the other perlites based glass. A neutral generally blue-green colored, infrared energy absorbing glass (heating absorbing glas) composition comprises Okçular perlite based conventional soda-lime-silica float glass ingrident, a relatively high concentration of moderately reduced iron. The iron oxide in the perlite based glass by the mineral biotite of perlite in the glass batch formulation.
