Rem Koolhaas Ve Yapıtları

Abstract

Hollanda asıllı Mimar Rem Koolhaas günümüz mimarlık dünyasının önemli isimlerinden biridir. 1975 tarihinde eşi Madelon Vreisendorp, Elia ve Zoe Zenghelis ile birlikte OMA’yı (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) kurmuşlardır. Günümüzde OMA’nın ve mimari araştırmaya yönelik yardımcı ofis AMO’nun başında bulunan mimar ‘bugünün toplumuna hitap etmek ve bugünün binalarını tasarlamak’ amacıyla uluslararası düzeyde ses getiren projelere imza atmıştır. Koolhaas, mimari uygulamanın yanı sıra mimarlık felsefesi alanındaki çalışmalarıyla da tanınmaktadır. Küreselleşmenin mimarlığa ve günümüz şehirlerine olan etkilerini ortaya koymakta ve bunun getirdiği kaotik ortamı memnuniyetle karşılamaktadır. Teorisyen olarak düşüncelerini, yayınladığı çeşitli kitaplarda ve deneme yazılarında görmek mümkündür. Halen Harvard Üniversitesi’nde seminer dersi yürütücülüğü yapan mimar, Prizker başta olmak üzere birçok ödüle layık görülmüştür. Bu çalışmanın amacı Koolhaas’ın teori ve uygulama alanlarında gerçekleştirdiği yapıtlarının hangi yaklaşımlarla meydana getirildiğinin örneklerle ortaya koyulmasıdır. Bu nedenle ilk olarak 20.yy. mimarlık ortamı üzerine bir literatür araştırması yapılmıştır ve tez çalışmasına dâhil edilmiştir. Çalışmanın bir sonraki bölümünde Koolhaas’ın yaşamı hakkında mesleki ve özel bilgiler verilmektedir. Diğer bir bölümde ise Koolhaas’ın kuramsal duruşu hakkında bilgi vermek amacıyla mimar’ın yayınladığı kitaplara değinilmiştir. Rem Koolhaas’ın projelerinden örneklerin incelendiği ve her bir projenin hangi mimari yaklaşımlar sonucu meydana geldiğinin tespit edildiği bölümde ise, projeler, Koolhaas’ın kendi gruplandırma prensibine göre, ölçekleri göz önüne alınarak ana gruplara ayrılmış, kendi içlerinde ise kronolojik sıra takip edilmiştir. Bu ana gruplara ilaveten Koolhaas’ın son dönem projeleri haklarında henüz fazla bilgi olmadığı için ayrı bir başlık altında irdelenmişlerdir. Sonuç bölümünde ise Rem Koolhaas’ın yapıtlarının birçoğunun tek bir mimari anlayışla oluşmadığı, farklı tutumların bir arada kullanıldığı hibrit tasarımlar oldukları ortaya çıkmıştır. Bununla birlikte, Koolhaas’ın projelerinde genellikle Modern Mimari prensiplerinden yola çıkan, fakat onu maniyere eden tek defaya özgü, alışılmadık formlar üreten bir tutum içerisinde olduğu görülmüştür.

Netherlands architect Rem Koolhaas is one of the prominent figures of today s world of architecture. In 1975 he founded the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) with his wife Madelon Vreisendorp, Elia and Zoe Zengelis. Currently, Koolhaas is the principal of OMA, and of its research-oriented counterpart AMO. Through the purpose of ‘addressing to today’s society and designing today’s building’ his projects have been established an international reputation. He is not also known with his architectural practices but with his works in theoritical field. He remarkes the influence of globalization on today’s cities, and he welcomes the chaotic envirenment produced by them. His thoughts as being theorist can be seen in his many books and essays. Currently he is lecturer of a seminar course at Harvard University. He has also been awarded many prizes, including Prizker prize. The purpose of this study is to expose with examples, Koolhaas’ approaches performed in theoretical and practical fields. Therefore, at first, a literature survey has been done in the 20th century architectural environment and it has been included in the thesis. In the next section of the study, professional and private information about Koolhaas life is given. In another section, in order to provide information about the theoretical position of Koolhaas, published books by architect have been mentioned. In the section where Rem Koolhaas examples of projects have been examined, each project s architectural approaches have been exposed. In that part of the projects, Koolhaas own grouping principle according to scale has been taken into consideration. Then, the main groups have been separated themselves inside by the chronological order. In addition to these main groups, Koolhaas’ recent projects have been examinated under a separate heading due to lack of enough information about them yet. In conclusion, it was understood that Rem Koolhaas’ works were generally not formed by a unique architectural consideration but by combination of several attitudes, and they were hybride designs. In addition to this, it was seen that Modern Architectural principles are generally point of departure for Koolhaas projects, but it was remarked that he is in an attitude to affect it and to produce unusual, unique forms.
