Examination of the links between communication and environment in urban areas and their change in the digital age

Abstract

People's relationship with their surrounding consist of different links between various elements that inhabits in these environments, and communication is one of the most important action that creates harmony between them. From small communities to crowded urban living, in every scale communication plays an important role. Yet complex organized living systems such as urban environments, increase the amount of communication patterns that people encounter everyday which directly affects human environment interaction. The improvements in technology, has transformed the communication patterns with in the urban content. Even though this transformation is constant, the rapid change in technology especially with mobile device, has accelerated it and allowed new digital realities co-habit with the physical reality. Also digital realities which overcome the restrictions of distance and expand the borders of time and place, re-shape the web of relations that focuses on human and environment relations. Human environment interaction examines relationship patterns of people with their environment. Environment is a dense term that includes other living things, relations, behaviour and culture as cumulation of these relations and behaviours. Furthermore, it defines and transforms the conceptualization of space. The necessity of human environment interaction is directly in relation with the basic needs of human and one of the most important method to achieve this interaction is communication. Communication is an subtle act that can occur in different forms and can be perceived by different senses.
