İstanbul Beyazıt’taki Theodosıus Forumu Geç Antik Dönemden Osmanlı Dönemi’ne Kadar Forum Ve Yapılarının Değişimi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada İstanbul-Beyazıt’ta bulunan Theodosius Forumu ve bu foruma ait yapıların mimari özellikleri ile forumun geç antik dönemden Osmanlı Dönemi’ne kadar olan değişimi incelenmiştir. 20. yüzyılda yapılan kazılarda bulunan bazı parçaların forum yapılarına ait olabileceği düşünülmüştür. Forumda bulunan Theodosius Sütunu, Theodoius Takı, bazilika, heykeller, hamam, kiliseler ve sarnıçlar tarihçeleri, yerleri, yazılı kaynaklar ve kazılar sonucunda elde edilen mimari özellikleriyle ele alınmıştır. Mevcut kalıntıları sebebiyle Theodosius Sütunu ve Takı’na ağırlık verilmiştir. Yapılarla ilgili yazılı ya da görsel kaynaklar az olup güvenilir restitüsyonları için yetersiz düzeydedir. Bu çalışmada yazılı ve görsel kaynaklar ile alandaki forum yapılarına ait parçalar incelenmiş ve forumun mimari özellikleri saptanmaya çalışılmıştır. Theodosius Forumu’na ve yapılarına model olduğu ya da benzediği düşünülen forumlar ve yapılar ele alınmıştır. Günümüze kadar yapılmış Theodosius Forumu restitüsyonları incelenmiş, forum ve yapılarıyla ilgili bilgiler ve varsayımlar değerlendirilmiş ve bir restitüsyon önerilmiştir.

In this study the architectural characteristics of the Theodosius Forum in Istanbul-Beyazıt including its buildings and the development of the forum from late antiquity to the Ottoman period are examined. Some fragments found in the archeological excavations during the 20th century are thought of probable elements of the forum. The buildings in the forum, namely the Coloumn of Theodosius, the Arch of Theodosius, the basilica, the sculptures in the forum, the bath, the churches and the cisterns are explained with their historical backgrounds, locations and architectural characteristics obtained through literary sources and archeological excavation results. Due to the extant remains the Coloumn and the Arch of Theodosius are explained more detailed. The literary and visual sources are of little amount and not enough for reliable restitutions. In this study the scriptoral and visual sources and the fragments of the forum are examined to determine the architecural characteristics of the forum. Forums which are thought of being probable models for the Theodosius Forum or similar to it are examined. The restitutions of the Theodosius Forum are explained, datas and assumptions are evaluated and a restitution is proposed.
