İstanbul Yeniköy Zoğrafyon Rum Kız İlkokulu Restorasyon Projesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada İstanbul’un Sarıyer ilçesine bağlı Yeniköy semtinde yer alan Zoğrafyon Rum Kız İlkokulu konu alınmıştır. Yapının günümüzdeki durumunun belgelenmesine yönelik gerekli çalışmalar yapılmış; okulun ilk yapıldığı dönemdeki durumu eski harita, fotoğraf, yazılı kaynaklar, yerinde yapılan incelemeler ve kişisel görüşmelerle saptanarak tarihsel gelişim süreci incelenmiştir. Okulun korunup gelecek nesillere aktarılarak faaliyetini sürdürmesi için onarım ve yeniden işlevlendirme kararı alınmıştır. Mimarı Konstantinos Dimadis olan okul, dönemin ünlü Rum bankeri Hristaki Zoğrafos tarafından 1872 yılında Yeniköy Aya Nikola Kilisesi’nin karşısındaki tepecikte yaptırılmıştır. Cephe düzeninde Neo-Bizans üslubunun etkin olduğu okul, 1954 yılında Mimar Vasil Vingas tarafından kapsamlı bir biçimde restore edilmiştir. Yapı günümüzde işlevini yitirmiş olup, yardıma muhtaç iki Rum aile tarafından yaşama birimi olarak kullanılmaktadır. Çalışmanın birinci bölümünde çalışmanın amacı, kapsamı ve çeşitli aşamalarda kullanılan yöntemler anlatılmıştır. İkinci bölümde Zoğrafyon Rum Kız İlkokulu’nun bulunduğu Yeniköy semtinin konumu ve bölgenin 16. yüzyıldan itibaren tarihsel, sosyal ve ekonomik gelişimi ile birlikte geçmişte Yeniköy’de bulunan diğer Rum Okulları ele alınmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde okulun tarihçesi ile mimarı hakkında bilgiler verilmiştir. Çalışmanın dördüncü bölümünde yapının konumu ve çevresel özellikleri belirtildikten sonra tüm mekânları, cepheleri, strüktür ve malzeme özellikleri, yapı elemanları ile yapıdaki bozulmalar ve nedenleri detaylı bir şekilde anlatılmıştır. Beşinci bölümde restitüsyon çalışması konu alınmıştır. Restitüsyon çalışmasında okulun zaman içinde geçirdiği değişim üç farklı dönem ile ayırt edilmiş, kişisel gözlemler, kullanıcılarına ait bilgiler ile çeşitli harita ve belgeler doğrultusunda vaziyet planı, plan ve cephe restitüsyon projeleri hazırlanmıştır. Altıncı bölümde yapının aktif kullanımı ile ilgili olarak, döneminin ünlü bir mimarına ait olan bu yapıyı geleceğe aktarmak amacıyla öneriler geliştirilmiştir. Yapının ihtiyaç duyduğu onarıma ilişkin müdahaleler tespit edilmiş, bunlara dayalı olarak müdahale analizleri ile birlikte bir restorasyon önerisi hazırlanmıştır. Sonuç bölümünde ise yapılan çalışmanın tüm sonuçları değerlendirilmiştir.

In this thesis, Zoğrafyon Greek Primary School for Girls, located in Yeniköy quarter of İstanbul - Sarıyer is studied. Research is carried out in order to document the current situation of the building; the original situation of the building is determined by the contribution of old maps, photographs, written sources, observations on-site and personal interviews, and its historic development is investigated. The school, designed by architect Konstantinos Dimadis was financed by the famous Greek banker Hristaki Zoğrafos in 1872 on a small hill across the Aya Nikola Church. The school with a Neo-Byzantine façade, was restored in 1954 by the architect Vasil Vingas. The building has lost its original function and being used for the accommodation of two poor Greek families. In the first section of the study, the aim, the scope and the methods used in several phases have been described. In the second section, the geographical location and the historic, social and economic development of Yeniköy since the 16th century are described together with the other Greek Schools formerly situated in Yeniköy. In the third section, short history of the school and information on its architect is given. In the fourth section of the thesis, after making a definition about its location and its surroundings, all spaces, façades, structural elements and materials have been described with their deterioration and the reasons. In the fifth section, reconstitution of the building is studied. In this work, the changes of the building through the years have been differentiated by three different time periods. In accordance with the personal observations, informations gathered from the users, and several maps and documents, the reconstitution project including the site plan, plans and façades has been prepared. In the sixth section, concerning the active usage of the building, proposals are made to convey this building to the coming generation. The required interventions for its proper restoration has been ascertained. Depending on this, a restoration proposal together with the intervention analysis has been prepared. In the conclusion part, all the results of the study were evaluated.
