dc.description Thesis (M.Sc.) -- İstanbul Technical University, Graduate School, 2023
dc.description.abstract The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the various factors affecting the listening habits of undergraduate students at the Conservatories in Istanbul; targeted. Within the scope of the research, Mimar Sinan University, Istanbul University, Okan University, Istanbul Technical University, Bahçeşehir University, and Marmara University. 233 undergraduate students studying at their conservatories were reached, and research findings were created based on the 43-question survey data prepared. The research problem aims to understand the determinants that shape students' music listening habits within the context of music education. The research objectives encompass two aspects: (1) identifying the primary factors influencing students' listening behaviors and (2) exploring the complex relationship between these factors and students' music preferences. The theoretical framework of Pierre Bourdieu's concepts of habits and forms of capital is used to examine the research. This study aims to expand the existing knowledge of the multifaceted influences that contribute to the development of music preferences and behaviors among undergraduate students enrolled in conservatories. As a result, in line with the findings, it has been revealed that the social environment, cultural capital, education, and media factors that shape the unique music experiences of undergraduate students are related.
