Kentte İki Göçebe

Abstract

Bu tez, kentli hikayeleri ile kenti anlamaya çalışmakla ilgilidir. Üst bakışla kenti anlamak ya da anlatmaktan çok, yakın mesafeden bir bakışla üst bakışta görünmez hale gelen/önemsizleşen `kentli?yi ön plana çıkarmayı amaçlar. Hikayeler kentleşme sürecindeki değişimlere maruz kalan kentlinin, bu değişimlerin tetiklediği yer değişikliklerine, göçebelik durumlarına odaklanır. Biri eski bir İstanbullu olan Nevriye Hanım, diğeri ise İstanbul?a sonradan göçle gelen Zaide Teyze?nin kentin farklı karakterdeki mekanlarında yerleşmeye çabalarken, barınma pratikleri açısından, ne gibi direnme, uzlaşma ve tutunma yöntemleri geliştirdikleri araştırılır. Süreçlerinin büyük bölümüne bizzat tanıklık ettiğim hikayeler, karakterlerin kentte belirli yerlerde yerleşme-yaşama-terketme fragmanlarının biraraya gelmesinden oluşur. İki farklı okuma ölçeği benimsenir: Ön planda iki ana karakter/aktörün bir noktada kesişen hikayeleri, arka planda kentin kentleşme eşikleri vardır. Hikayelerde öne çıkan kavram/olay/kurgu/süreç/nesne/kişileri anlamaya çalışmak ve bu süreçte kentin değişim/dönüşümü ile ilgili ipuçları bulmak hedeflenir. İstanbullu olmanın açılımları da keşfedilmeye çalışılır. Tez üç bölümden oluşur: Giriş, anlatı ve sonuç. İlk bölümde tezin niyetleri ve yöntemi tartışılır, sınırlar ve kapsam belirlenir. Hikayeler, kavramlar, sözlük ve çizelge tezin ikinci bölümü ve ana metni olan anlatı bölümünün altbölümlerini oluşturur. Hikayeler: tezin teorik altyapısını oluşturan kavramlar, hikayelerdeki durum ve aktörler hakkında bilgi veren sözlük, hikayelerdeki olayları/durumları, kente ait sistem, mekan, süreçlerle ilişkilendiren ve genel bir İstanbul kentleşme tarihi anlatısı olan çizelge ile desteklenir. Üçüncü bölüm ise bitirirken niyetleri bir daha tartışmayı hedefler.

The thesis is about understanding the city through the experiences of the citizens. Instead of reading the city through the grand narratives, it aims to understand the relationship between the city and the citizen with a closer look. It aims to explore the individual experiences through the fast urbanization, top-down processes and homogenizing grand narratives on the urban transformation of the city-İstanbul. The stories of the two citizens form the starting point for the research. The main objective is the narration-documentation of how these individuals react, defend and exist through and within the interrelations of economic, social, cultural, physical transformations of the city. The stories focus on the nomadic situations of the relocating characters, in order to find a place to dwell in the city, through the urbanization process of İstanbul. The thesis consists of three parts; introduction, narrative and conclusion. İn the introduction part, the intensions and the method is discussed, contents and the limits of the thesis are defined. The second part, narrative, consists of the two stories, a glosary and a timeline. The glossary defines some of the urban phenomena, concepts and situations that are refered to in the stories. The timeline attempts to situate the stories within the historical urbanization process timeline of İstanbul. It is suggested that the stories glossary and the timeline are read simultaneously. In the conclusion, the positions of these two women as actors in the city, are discussed.
