Abstract
The minimization of the effect of the induced drag for a flapping Iow aspect ratio finite wing is made with viscous inviscid coup/ing. The root and uniform flapping are combined in order to reduce the effect of the dawnwash induced by three dimensionality. The Phase difference between the üniform and the root flapping is üşed as optimization parameter in objective function which consists of the suction force and the induced drag obtained via inviscid considerations. Afterwards, the 3-D unsteady boundary layer is solved to calculate the viscous drag. The net propulsive force is then evaluated to see whether a sufficient propulsive force is obtained for the combined f/apping motion.
