Mimarlık ve Seçkinleştirme: Cihangir Örneği

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, kentleşme evrelerinden biri olan küreselleşme ile başlayan sanayisizleşme döneminin kent merkezlerini yeniden çekici hale getirmesi ile meydana gelen seçkinleştirme süreci incelenmiştir. Sanat, medya, eğitim gibi sektörlerde çalışan yeni orta sınıfın kent merkezlerini, kozmopolitliği ve çekiciliği ile tercih etmelerinin ardından, bu semtlerde meydana gelen fiziksel ve toplumsal dönüşümler seçkinleştirmeyi oluştururlar. Bu çalışmanın amacı, seçkinleştirme kavramını anlamak, farklı teorileri ile birlikte açıklamaktır. Seçkinleşme sürecinin oluşumunu hazırlayan tarihsel dönemler İstanbul örneğinde ele alınarak, İstanbul’un farklı semtlerinde görülen seçkinleştirme örnekleri ayrı ayrı incelenmiştir. Toplumsal yapısı da ayrıca ele alınan Cihangir’de sürecin etkileri yapılan alan çalışmaları ile analiz edilmiş ve seçkinleştirmenin mekanları ne şekilde dönüştürdüğü çeşitli örneklerle açıklanmıştır.

In this study, the process of gentrification as a consequence of regeneration of city centers of the non industrialized period, which starts with globalization as one of the phases of urbanization, is analyzed. Following the preferences of the middle class, who are active in sectors like art, media, education etc., on the city centers according as their cosmopolitanism and attractiveness, the physical and sociological transformation in these neighborhoods constitutes gentrification. The aim of this study, is to understand the concept of gentrification and unfold it throughout different theories. The historical periods, which set base for the gentrification process, and the various areas of Istanbul have been studied in detail for gentrification. Cihangir, which has also been studied in a sociological perspective, has been analyzed with field studies and the effect of gentrification on certain locations has been exemplified.
