Antik Karya Bölgesindeki Kent Dışı Kutsal Alanlar

Abstract

Karya bölgesi coğrafi olarak, Güneybatı Anadolu’da Büyük Menderes (ant. Maiandros) Irmağı’yla, Dalaman (ant. İndos) Çayı arasında kalan kıyı hattı ile gerisindeki dağlık kesimi içine almaktadır. Labraynda, Lagina, Kastabos gibi yerleşimlerin çoğunda kazı çalışmaları epeyce yol katedip yayımlanmasına rağmen, arkeolojik açıdan hala bakir sayılabilecek bir bölgedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Batı Anadolu bölgesinde yer alan antik Karya bölgesinde ve Karya karşı sahillerininde yer alan Kos ve Rodos gibi adalarında dahil edilebileceği bir coğrafi sınırlama içerisinde, yerel Karya ve Yunan kültlerine adanmış kent dışı kutsal alanları belirlemek; bu kutsal alanlardaki mimari özellikleri genel hatlarıyla tanımlamak ve bazı genel kuralların olup olmadığını tespit etmektir.Geographically, the Caria region covers the coastal strip in between the Büyük Menderes (anc. Maiandros) River and Dalaman (anc. Indos) Stream and the hilly area behind, in the Southwest Anatolia. Although the sites like Labraynda, Lagina and Kastabos were excavated for long time, and the results were published, the entire region could be considered as virgin in terms of archeological surveys. The purpose of this study, is to identify and to describe the extra-urban sanctuaries dedicated to the local Carian and the Greek cults within Carian region of Western Anatolia, and the islands of Cos and Rhodes which are well connected to the mainland both physically and culturally; further, to discuss the architectural characteristics of the sites, and to see whether they have some common design principles and settlement features.
