Fenomenolojik Yöntem Ve Tektonik Dil: Materyale Duyarlı Tasarım

Abstract

Materyal, mimarlığın en temel varoluşsal öğelerinden biridir. Materyal kavramı, doğada bulunan materyalden başlayarak günümüze kadar gelinen süreçte pek çok kuram açısından konu edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada farklı olarak materyal, kuramsal açıdan dolaylı olarak ele alınan bir unsur değil doğrudan ele alınan unsur olmuştur. Mekânı oluştururken bir değer olarak materyalin ifade ettiği anlam önemlidir. Buna rağmen materyal genellikle yapı bilgisi gibi teknik bir alana sıkıştırılmaktadır. Materyalin fizikselliğinin yanında kayda değer zihinsel ve algısal boyutu olduğu gözden kaçmaktadır. Bu noktada, ‘Mimari yapı tasarlanırken, yapının materyalle tanımlanışı nerede başlar?’ sorusu da önem kazanır. Çalışmanın bir diğer önemli sorusu: Materyal-mimarlık ilişkisinde materyalin ele alınışının mimari tasarımı nasıl etkilediğidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, materyal üzerinden gelişen mimari tasarım kuramlarını araştırmak ve bugün gelinen noktada materyalin mimari tasarımdaki rolünü değerlendirmektir. Yöntem olarak kuramsal tartışmaları araştırıp, bu tartışmanın izlerini mimarların tasarım yaklaşımları ve mimari yapıları üzerinden sürerek bir değerlendirme yapmak amaçlanmıştır. Tüm bu araştırmalar ve gözlemler sonucunda materyale duyarlı tasarıma dair bir kuramsal çerçeve oluşmuştur. Bu çerçeve; bir yöntem olarak fenomenolojinin ve bir dil olarak tektoniğin ele alınmasıyla tutarlılık içeren, materyale duyarlı tasarımın varlığını göstermektedir.

Material is one of the basic existential elements of architecture. It has been the subject of a number of theoretical approaches starting from the material within the nature until today. Material is directly examined under this study rather than indirectly. The meaning of material is important as a value during the formation of the spaces. However, material is generally restricted within a technical field such as construction technology. The significant mental and perceptual dimension of material is usually ignored unlike its physical nature. Thus, the question of ‘When does material start to define the construction?’ becomes more of an issue. Another important question dealt with this study is the effect of treatment of material on the architectural design in terms of material-architecture relationship. The aim of this study is to research on the architectural design theories developed based on the material and to evaluate the role of material in architectural design with regard to the point reached until today. Theoretical discussions are researched and an evaluation is made by pursuing the tracks of such discussions on the design approaches and architectural constructions of architects as a method. A theoretical framework is established for the material sensitive design as a result of such researches and observations. This framework proves the existence of material sensitive design in a consistent way by using phenomenology as a method and tectonic as a language.
