dc.description.abstract What is the possibility for designed spaces to be a stimulant or a bridge to understand the state of being-in-the-world? Is it possible to find new ways to explore our body and mind by using characteristics of space as a guide? What are the potentials of space? How does a man complete the space? How compatible are they? Do they let one another be? How to make them let one another be? The study begins with asking these questions and aims to discuss the relevance between body, space and experience, which is conceived as a problem within the context of 'rigidity of space'. The scenario of space contains the base actions of man and subjects the images we create when we experience the same actions to itself. Every time we recall the images from the mind, they could be different one from the other but not stimuli in the way of existence. Some spaces and scenarios are emerging positions to question ourselves, space, time and explore them all, make definitions in a different way, experience 'the new' and create our surroundings. The study is aimed to ruin the space experience that we are accustomed and search for the alternative areas which allows multi-meaning understandings. During this search, 'ambiguity' and its expansions are used as tools to think with. The spaces defined as ambiguous, create different physical or mental layers; they blur the limitations while body perceiving space. 'Ambiguity' can be existed in all spaces and fictions, nevertheless the study aims to examine the beyond, exclude the imperious modes and change the existing approach. The first section defines the problematic of the thesis and the methods of it. In the theoretical framework of the thesis, three concepts are discussed: Space, body and experience. ‘Loss of awareness due to ordinary experiences’ was detected in Bergson and Shrödinger’s approaches and ‘awakening consciousness’ is thought within the context of being creative which has influence of stimulating. For this reason, the concept of experience in the thesis is discussed within the scope of the 'being creative experience'. The literal spaces or concepts do not allow any intervention to theirselves, but ‘being creative’ experience requires a physical or mental intervention. At this point the 'ambiguity' concept is participated in the thesis as a potential which creates opportunities for physical or mental interventions to the space. The possibility of revealing ‘being creative’ experience with space and its expansions is examined by using ‘ambiguity’ as a tool. For understanding the intellectual background of the concepts of the thesis, firstly different approaches of various thinkers has revealed through literature research. In this way, the possibility of emerging the new types of experience is discussed. In the second section, body, space, experience and the relevance between them is examined. The likelihood of alternative potentials of experience that is dealt with under the title of creativity experience is reviewed, the situations where body effects to space or space enforce mind to create are discussed. In the thesis, space is not simply a thing outside one's body, but an extension of it. This section also refers Deleuze and Guattari's approach to body and machines to help understanding the above-mentioned relation. Third section defines 'ambiguity' and its connotations. It mentions not only the situations that we question space but also the situations that space questions itself. Afterwards, basic principles of quantum mechanics, which are related to multilayered situation in 'ambiguity', are referred. The transition of the reality from objectivity to subjectivity is mentioned. Ambiguity carries hides, it might have implications; it might be polysemic. As opposed to this, inexpressiveness/ meaninglessness do not leave any reality or image to think with. In this context, inexpressiveness/ meaninglessness (exemption) may be incorporated into ambiguity. Ambiguity is examined in the status of polysemy and exemption. Exemption represents the state of being exempt from all meanings/images. On such an occasion, there is no reality or resemblance, therefore mind could reveal its own creativity. However, without adhering to any image which is impossible even to think about, the state of being exempt / meaninglessness remains a utopian idea. Polysemy contains multiple meanings at the same time therefore it forces people to struggle. In multiple meanings, each person attaches to different meanings. Participants involve in the creative process by exerting to create their own significations. Polysemy might be composed of given layers of meaning [openness], or hidden layers of meaning [blurrines]. Openness creates potentials and represents unfinishedness. There is a possibility of intervention to an open thing / situation / space. Blurrines literally represents ‘blur’, it is dynamic and variable. People in this varying fields, are scattered among different meanings and images. Fourth section focuses on the examples of different types of ambiguous spaces. Space changes by mixing 'ambiguity' and its connotations with itself. Mixes and overlaps emerge derivations and potentials of body-space relation. The thesis puts forward ambiguous space derivations/expansions to change aspects of the current space conceptions. These expansions are defined as mutations by referencing Schrödinger’s approach. The multiple layers of meaning might be obvious or hidden. In these cases, the different potentials of the space revealed by one’s body or mind. In this way, space becomes one’s own design. In ‘open-spaces’, description of spaces might be changed by the participants, nevertheless this is performed within a certain limit. The ‘open-space’ does not include any physical blur; mostly it allows the participants for resettlement/ rearrangement. ‘Resonance-spaces’ are fuzzy, blur and variable, wherein there is a situation that disrupts the current meanings. Participant in this blur, goes into a mental struggle and efforts to create his own meaning. The final section comprises a general evaluation and a brief discussion on the findings of the study. The study is like a web of ideas, inferring from the relevance between body and space. It is part of a continuing investigation/discussion to determine what relationship there might be between body and space. It becomes a research of the ways in which users operate. The concept of 'ambiguity' is participated in the web so as to make such a discussion possible. The usage of 'ambiguity' in the study draws on multiple interpretations of the term and indicates pathways for further interpretations of space. en_US
