At this master degree thesis work, dynamical analysis of a moderately thick spherical shell has been done for both isotropic material and “Functionally Graded Material (FGM)” and important characteristics such as mode frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are examined. For the sake of being able to make these examination, analytically studied from defining the coordinate system to handling the governing equations and these governing equations expressed in terms of displacements. Different boundary conditions are also expressed in terms of displacements. Up to this stage, First-Order Shear Deformation Theory (FSDT) is used to include the transverse shear stresses and rotary inertias. The governing equations are tried to be solved numerically by using Differential Quadrature Method (DQM). At first, free vibrations of a beam is analysed with different boundary conditions to have a better understanding of the application of DQM and leading from one dimensional application of DQM to two dimensional. The data obtained are compared with some finding in the literature and the convergence of DQM is analysed. For consolidating the two dimensional application of method and as a good example of the subject, plate vibrations are studied and again the results obtained are compared with the results in the literature. The method is modified to apply it to spherical shell vibrations as the next step. Equations and numerical solutions are applied to an isotropic steel shell and the shell manufactured by FGM which is made by mixing steel and ceramic in microscopic level and in which the material properties changes by the transverse coordinate and on one surface the steel properties are important and on the other surface ceramic properties are important. For the spherical shell and these two different types of materials, mode frequencies and corresponding mode shapes of the spherical shell are obtained. The results are compared with each other and with the results found in the literature and the results of the analysis with ANSYS package program.
