Yüzyıl Dönümü İstanbul Mimarlığında “viktorya Tarzı” Sayfiye Konutları

Abstract

Bu çalışmada günümüze kadar az değinilmiş bir konu olan, İstanbul konut mimarlığında “Viktorya Tarzı” etkisi ele alınmıştır. 19. yüzyıla yayılan ve kendi içinde alt dönemlere ayrılan bu tarzın konut mimarlığına özgü genel ortak özelliklerinin asimetrik plan ve kütle, dik kırma çatı, serbest ahşap bitkisel bezemeler, bazen Neo-Gotik etkisi ve özellikle geç dönemde “eski İngiliz Stili” olarak adlandırılan İngiliz kır evi tarzı olduğu saptanmıştır. Bu etkinin, İstanbul’da önce elçilik konutları ve saray yapıları gibi öncü yapılarda görüldüğü düşünülerek bu gibi yapılar incelenmiştir. Bu etki altında kalınarak yapılmış olduğu düşünülen, 19. yüzyılda İstanbul’un sayfiye bölgeleri olan Kadıköy, Adalar, Yeşilköy’de ve Boğaziçi’nin kuzey kıyılarındaki semtlerde bulunan tipik konut örnekleri seçilmiştir. Bu yapılar detaylı olarak anlatılmış ve kütle, plan, cephe ve bezemesel ortak özellikleri belirlenmiştir. Viktorya Tarzı ile İstanbul’daki örneklerin ortak özellikleri karşılaştırılmış ve bu tarzın geç Osmanlı döneminde İstanbul’a taşınarak uygulandığı sonucuna varılmıştır.The theme of this research is the influence of “Victorian Style” on Istanbul houses which has been rarely mentioned before. This style, which existed through the 19th century and had sub-divisions, has common characteristics for houses such as asymmetrical plan and mass, steep roof, floral wooden ornaments, sometimes Neo-Gothic influence and especially in the last period the “old English Style”. Assuming that this style was introduced to Istanbul by pioneering buildings, embassy residences and palaces were studied. Some sample houses, which were built in this style in the 19th cebtury suburban areas of Istanbul, were selected. These houses were explained in detail and their common characteristics in mass, plan, façade, and ornament were summarized. Then, the common characteristics of the houses in Istanbul and the Victorian Style were compared. As a result, this style was introduced and applied in İstanbul during the last decades of the Ottoman Empire.
