In this study, the motion of a helicopter rotor test stand with three or more blades in hover is investigated. Equations of motion are derived for the blade on a rotating fixed hub. Fuselage degrees of freedom (DOFs) are added to these equations in case of a free hub. Afterwards, blade DOFs and equations of motion are expressed in non-rotating frame by using Fourier coordinate transformation. Equations for the fuselage motion are also derived in a Newtonian way. Blade sectional aerodynamic forces are derived with Blade Element Momentum Theory and the effect of these forces on the modal equations are found by using quasisteady aerodynamics. Nonlinear terms in the equations are linearized and consequently, a set of constant coefficient linear differential equations are obtained. The eigenvalues of this system gives the natural frequencies and damping ratios of it. Properties of an experimental rotor stand found in the literature are used to apply the method and the results are compared with the test results.
