Abstract
Information technologies are today not only impacting the processing of data but also influencing the way people work at their jobs, the kinds «f products that the firm produces, and the manner in which many businesses compete* Information processing has become for many organizations, a matter ©f strategic importance. Information, in many organizations, is key resource. The growing role of information as a key organizational resource has made the study of information systems vital. Vir tually all managers need to manipulate information as part of their jobs. By studying the processes that cause information to be needed, gathered, manipulated, stored and used. These people can develope strategies and tools to make themselves or their organizations more effective and more efficient. Effectiveness adreeses system outputs. Efficiency, on the other hand, addresses the use of resources to produce results. Being effectiveness means having done the right thing, whereas being efficient means that something was done the right way. In first chapter the need of MIS, its development and subsystems are described. A Management Information System (MIS) or Information System(IS), is a system that provides to authorized people in a timely manner either data or information relating to an organization's operations. The MIS effort in an organization is composed of four subsystems: (l) Transaction Processing Systems vii ÖZET Veri (Data), bir veya daha fazla işleyici'den (Processor) geçirilerek o iş ile ilgili kişiye bir anlam ve değer ifade edecek gerçeklerdir, bilgiye dönüştürülürler.
