dc.description.abstract Bu tezde, optik uyum tomografisi (optical coherence tomography, OCT) işaretinin benzetimi yapılmaktadır.
dc.description.abstract In this thesis, optical coherence tomography (OCT) is simulated. Devices used in OCT are: 1- Broadband (low coherence) light source, 2- Michelson Interferometer, 3- Double Pass Fourier Domain Optical Delay Line (DP-FD-ODL), and if needed, 4- Optical Fibers. Coherence length of the low coherent light source determines the axial resolution of an OCT image. If the path length difference between signals that come back from the reference and the sample arm is more than coherence length, these signals do not interfere. The selection of center wavelength of the light source is important because some wavelengths are much absorbed by tissues decreasing the penetration depth. Also the ratio between the center wavelength and wavelength bandwidth must be selected properly because this ratio determines coherence length and image resolution. In Michelson Interferometer, the light beam from the light source is split into two at the beam splitter to obtain to two beams that have equal phase. If the path length difference between signals that are reflected back from the reference and sample arms is less than coherence length, interference occurs. This interference signal’s intensity is measured by detector. DP-FD-ODL at the reference arm of the Michelson Interferometer imposes a phase shift on the reference beam equal to the phase shift of the sample beam. DP-FD-ODL’s operation is based on the time-shifting property of the Fourier Transform, i.e. , a linear phase ramp in the frequency domain corresponds to a delay in the time domain.Group path length difference determines the scanning depth-length. Group velocity determines frequency bandwith of OCT signal and because of that it determines SNR and image quality. Phase velocity determines center frequency of OCT signal. In tissues other than the eye, optical scattering limits the image penetration depth to 2-3 mm. OCT can be adapted to endoscopical applications using fiber optics. en_US
