Bölümün sonunda prizmatik tüplerde sonlu ele man türü ile boyutlarının seçilmesine» ait esaslar açıklanmış tır. Bölüm III te, çeşitli türde sonlu elemanlarda uç kuv vetleri ile uç deplasmanları arasındaki matris bağıntıları XX verilmiştir. Sonlu eleman boyutları sistem boyutlarına oran la yeter derecede küçük seçilebildiğinden her elemanda bi rim kuvvet matrisleri ile yükleme matrisleri birinci mertebe teorisi halinde tayin edilmiştir. Bu metodun her adımında problem, verilen yüklerle fiktif yüklerin etkisi altında bulunan sistemin birinci mertebe he sabına indirgenmektedir.
dc.description.abstract In this thesis, a force method is developed for the analysis of structural systems composed of tubular prismatic members. This method, which enables various geometrical and elastic properties inherent in the structure to be taken into account, is applicable to numerous spatial systems com posed of tubular prismatic members, shear walls and frames. A force method of successive approximations, whereby the non-linearity caused by variations in the system-geometry is represented in the form of fictitious forces, is also presen ted for the second order analysis of tubular prismatic mem bers and for the determination of the buckling loads. Chapter I begins with an introduction to the subject and the classification of tubular prismatic members, followed by a survey on related works, the scope of this study and the fundamentals of the proposed method. Chapter II is devoted to the idealisation of tubular prismatic members by means of discrete elements. Stresses and strains that are considered in the various classes of tu bular prismatic members are discussed and basic principles of the finite element method relevant to this study are summa rised. For the idealisation of the rectangular walls, special types of finite elements are defined by which different stress and/or strain distributions may be taken into account. Thus, in walls where the elongation strains in one direction are neglected, shearing strains may easily be included in the analysis. The chapter is concluded by outlining the princi ples pertaining to the selection of the type and size of fi nite elements in the idealisation of tubular prismatic mem bers. In Chapter III force-displacement relationships for each of the finite element types are given in matrix form. Since the sizes of the finite elements are sufficiently small with XIV respect to the structure, the flexibility matrix and load mat rices for each element are derived according to the first-or_ der theory. External forces acting between the nodes and ther mal expansions are also considered for each element. The above mentioned relationships are extended to the compound-element cases where each type of rectangular element may contain a bar element on one of its sides. In Chapter IV the method developed for the analysis of the structural system is described in detail. The chapter be gins by an outline of the matrix-force method. Then, consi dering each wall as a substructure, the procedure for the determination of the reduced primary structure, the reduntant forces. and the free-body diagram, is explained. There is no restriction on the mode of connection of the tubular prisma tic members to the rest of the structure. The redundant for ces are grouped according to their location. For each group, the selection of the homogeneous solutions in which the non-zero end forces exist in the smallest possible region, is described. A method is given for the automatic selection of homogeneous solutions in two dimensional stress analysis of plates composed of rectangular finite elements. The particu lar solutions are obtained from the free-body diagram of the reduced primary structure. A matrix computational method which facilitates the simultaneous determination of several displacement components in the same direction, is presented. For the cases where Saint-Venant torsional rigidities have been neglected in the analysis, a method of successive ap proximations is given, by which this rigidity can subsequent ly by considered. The application of the method to systems containing infinitely rigid diaphragms is also included. In Chapter V a force method of successive approximations for the second order analysis of tubular prismatic members is presented. In this method the non-linearity caused by var iations in the system geometry is represented by fictitious forces. At each step öf the successive approximations the problem is reduced to the first-order analysis of the system under the effect of the given and fictitious loads. A detailed description is given for the calculation of these fictitious forces by means of the estimated end forces and end displace_ ments. A method of successive approximations for the deter mination of the buckling loads by means of the same ficti tious forces is also included. XV In Chapter VI the logical layout of an electronic compu ter program coded in FORTRAN II-D is presented together, with detailed information on its usage. Chapter VII is devoted to numerical examples. The first example is arranged in two parts; in the first part ttre appli cation of the method presented in this study to the analysis of a tubular prismatic members is described for various exter nal effects; in the second part the effect of certain geomet rical and elastic properties on the results is discussed by analysing different tubular members having the same sectional geometry. In the second example it is shown that in certain cases the number and location of the rigid diaphragms may have considerable effect upon the results. The third problem illustrates the application of the matrix-force method to two dimensional stress analysis which is used in studying the local stress distributions in particular zones of the tubular members. All the computational work is performed by an IBM 1620 (40K) electronic computer. en_US
