In this thesis, the effect of mechanical processes applied to hot rolled steels on acid descaling process was studied. Oxygen in the atmosphere and iron reacts during hot rolling of steel and as a result, oxide layers form on the steel surface. Applied mechanical processes caused plastic deformations and those deformations help to removal of oxide layers from the surface, as a result affect the descaling reaction speed. In addition, luders band formation that formed in hot rolling was also eliminated by mechanical process. HCl and H2SO4 solutions were used and reaction mechanisms of these acid solutions were compared. Reaction speed is related with the weight loss and reaction with HCl solution was detected higher than that of H2SO4 solution.
