Soil erosion represents is one of the most serious environmental problems of modern time. Soil erosion and deposition cause not only on-site degradation of a natural resource base but also off-site problems such as downstream sediment deposition in fields, floodplains and water bodies. However, it is reported that effective soil 137 conservation programs can reduce substantially soil erosion losses. The use of Cs measurements in soil erosion investigations exploits the fact that the world-wide fallout 137 of Cs produced by the atmospheric testing of thermonuclear weapons during the 1950?s and 1960?s was in most environments rapidly and strongly adsorbed by the 137 surface soil. Subsequent redistribution of the Cs fallout input will have occurred in association with the movement of soil and sediment particles within the landscape and is thus a direct reflection of erosion and deposition mechanisms. In this frame the fallout radionuclides methodology (FRN?s) was developed. Omerli Dam Lake in Riva Creek Basin, constitute the main drinking and daily use water resource of Istanbul megacity. There are problems to determine and evaluate problems for selection of effective soil conservation and watershed management strategies in the basin. To determine the appropriate soil and watershed management strategies soil redistribution rates in the catchment should be determined. In this M.Sc. thesis research was done in two different sites (Pasaköy and Esenceli) in Omerli Watershed Basin. Soil redistribution rates was estimated using gamma spectroscopic analysis results of 137Cs radioactivity in investigated soil samples with fallout radionuclides conversion model. Keywords: Radionuclide, soil erosion, Omerli watershed
