The activities have been determined in the liquid Ag-Cu and Ag-Ge binaries at 1416 K. The method involves the mass spectrometric analysis of effusates from a valved Knudsen cell using the ion intensity of a component as a function of composition. The experimental equipment allows the measurement of ion intensity of a pure component followed immediately by measurements of ion intensities of this component for many alloys of interest during the course of one experiment. In this study, ion intensities of silver were measured as a function of composition and the activities of silver calculated from the ion intensities. Mole fractions were ranged from 0.000 to 0.830 for copper and 0.000 to 0.782 for germanium. The Ag-Cu system exhibits positive deviation from ideal behavior, and the results are in agreement with previous investigations and are summarized by the equation[math]The silver activities in Ag-Ge binary system shows near ideal behavior at 1416 K, and fairly in good agreement with previous investigations.
