Conbustion Modelling in Dedicated Naturel Gas Engines

Abstract

Combustion characteristics of a spark ignition engine utilizing natural gas as a fuel has been investigated by a mathematical model employing a global kinetic reaction mechanism for the oxidation of methane. In-cylinder flow mechanism is calculated by applying the Conchas algorithm in order to obtain the effects of various operational characteristics and design parameters concerning the combustion chamber. The results obtained from the model provided an optimization tool for engine modifications.
