On the slightly damped uniform n-mass oscillator

Abstract

Abstract This note is concerned with a slightly damped uniform n -mass oscillator where two cases are considered regarding the damping: only one mass is damped, all masses are damped simultaneously. For both cases, approximate analytical expressions are established for the eigenvalues which yield quite accurate approximations to the exact eigenvalues.
