In this study, sixteen concrete mixtures were cast, containing six different gradings of aggregate, composed of both continuous and step gradations. The water-to-cement ratio was kept constant at 0,5. In order to observe segregation, three different vibration times (3 sec, 9 sec, 18 sec) were chosen during trials. The amount of hyperplasticizer was also increased to achieve segregation. In the experimental studies, the differences between the workable mixtures and segregated mixtures were investigated. The studies were conducted and analysed both in fresh and hardened states. As a conclusion, it has been observed that as the concrete mixtures were segregated, the compressive strengths were decreased. Similarly, the split tensile strength of the concrete mixtures were decreased as segregation took place in the fresh concrete. The sieving of fresh concrete results indicated that when the difference of coarse aggregate between bottom and upper portion of the segregation was increased, the split tensile strength and the compressive strengths were decreased. As a fresh concrete results, the mixtures with continuous grading resist more against to segregation. As a hardened concrete results, the mixtures with step grading have been better mechanical properties than the mixtures with continuous grading.
