Şehirlerdeki Güncel Farklılaşmalar: İstanbul-istiklal Caddesi

Abstract

Bu tezde, günümüzün sosyal, kültürel, ekonomik değişimin ve farklı kuramsal yaklaşımların şehirler üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. Bu etkilerin İstanbul ve Beyoğlu-İstiklal Caddesi aksı ve yakın çevresinde mekansal farklılaşmalar açısından göstergeleri araştırılmıştır. Mekansal farklılaşma, melezleşme, çeşitlilik ve karşıtlıkların sadece bir imge yaratma sorunsalından oluşmadığı, aslında bu farklılaşmanın toplumsal yapının, kültürel birikimin, sermaye gruplarının ve turizm sektörünün etkisi ile gerçekleştiği görülmektedir. Bu göstergelerle beraber Beyoğlu-İstiklal Caddesi’nin güncel durumu ele alınmış, yerel yönetimlerin, sivil kuruluşların ve bazı sermaye gruplarının, projeleri ve uygulamaları incelenmiştir. Ayrıca yazılı ve sayısal bilgi organlarında yer alan güncel haberler ve röportajlar ile farklı bakış açıları değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışma alanı olarak belirlenen Büyükparmakkapı ve Nevizade Sokak ile yakın çevrelerinden elde edilen, üç boyutlu modellemeler, fotoğraf ve görüntü kayıtları gibi, veriler doğrultusunda ve güncel durum bağlamında mekansal dönüşümün boyutları ve içeriği tartışılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, bölgenin çekiciliğini artıran mekansal çeşitliliğin, değişimin ve melez durumların, yerel yönetimlerin “iyileştirme” ve “mekansal tek tipleştirme” projeleri ile sermaye gruplarının tüketime yönelik kar amaçlı girişimlerinden bağımsız olarak ortaya çıktığı görülmektedir.

In this thesis, the social, cultural and economic indicators and some theories affect the differentiation of the cities are examined. With this aim, the indicators of differentiations are investigated in the context of Istanbul, of its city center, the axis between Beyoglu and Istiklal Street, and of its neighborhood. It is apparent that the reason of spatial differentiations, hybridization, diversities and contradictions is not only a matter of creating an image. But rather, the structure of the population, the cultural inheritance, and the owners of the capital and tourism sector are the basic indicators of this differentiation. So, the current position of the Beyoglu-Istiklal Street is discussed under the light of these indicators. Hence, projects and applications of some local administrations, civil organizations and capital owners are examined. News and interviews about the current situation gathered from written media and internet resources enable different views to be evaluated. The extend and the content of the spatial differentiation is opened for discussion within the current context according to the data, such as three-dimensional modeling, photographs and video records, collected from Buyukparmakkapi, Nevizade Street, which are the regions I worked on, and from their neighborhood. To conclude, the spatial diversity increasing the attractiveness of the region, and differentiations and hybridizations of the region occur independently from the “rehabilitation” politics and “oneness and sameness of the spaces” projects of local government and from the benefit oriented consumption actions of some capital owners.
