Marmara Adası antik mermer ocakları ve Marmara Adası mermerlerinin güncel değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada; Türkiye'nin halen yaklaşık 1.000.000.000 m3 lük bloktaş üretiminin % 20-25 'inin sağlayan Marmara Adası mermerlerini çeşitli yönlerden incelemek ve adadaki Antik Mermer Ocaklarını tespit etmek amacıyla "Yüksek Lisans Tezi" olarak Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü'ne sunulmuştur. Birinci bölümde; tarihe adını yazdıran Marmara Adasının konumundan ve özelliklerinden bahsedilmiştir. ikinci bölümde; Marmara Adasında görülen kaya birimleri, özellikle mermerler oluşlarına ve litolojik yapılarına göre ayrılmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde; Marmara Adası mermerlerinin ve dolomitik mermerlerin fiziksel ve kimyasal özellikleri tartışılmış, mekanik özellikleri tartışılmıştır. Sırası ile diğer bölümlerde; Antik mermer ocaklarında taş üretim yöntemleri üzerinde durulmuş, arazi çalışmalarında antik ocaklar haritalara işaretlenmiştir. Güncel mermer ocaklarında ise; günümüz bloktaş üretim yöntemleri tarihi perspektif içerisinde incelenmiş Marmara adasından örnekler verilmiş ve seçilen pilot bölgede detaylı çalışmalar anlatılmıştır. Bir sonraki bölümde; tarihsel dönemlerde Anadoluda mermer kullanımı ve Marmara Adası mermerlerinin kullanıldığı yerler araştırılmıştır. Yedinci bölümde ise; Türkiye Mermer sektöründeki gelişmeler araştırılmış, Marmara Mermerinin bu sektör içerisindeki konumu belirtilmiştir. Sekizinci ve son bölümde ise; dünya mermer sektöründeki son gelişmeler anlatılmış ve Marmara Adası Mermerlerinin dünya mermer sektöründeki konumu belirlenmiştir.

The objective of the study is to investigate the Marmara Island Marble, which supplies 20-25% of Turkey's block stone production equivalent to 1.000.000 m3, within various perspectives and for locating the ancient marble quarries in the area. This stud is offered as a Master Thesis to the Science Institute of ITÜ. In the first section; the geograhpic location and further characteristics of the historical Marmara Island is discussed and presented. The second section is mainly about the rock units and lithologies observed in the Marmara Island and classification of the marbels is presented based on the properties of the marble formation and associated lithological features. In the third section; the physical, chemical and mechanical features of not only the Marmara Island marbles but also the dolomitic ones. In the other sections, respectively, stone production methods of the ancient marble quarries are mentioned, the mapping of the ancient quarry localities is performed using the information gathered from the field studies, the advanced present day production methods are investigated in a chronological order within various examples from the Marmara Island and the results of the detailed studies performed in the chosen pilot area are discussed. The major concern of the next section is the consumption of the marble in the ancient Anatolia and investigation of the usage proposals. In the seventh section; progresses of the Turkey's marble industry are investigated and significance of the Marmara marble for the industry is determined. In the eight and the last section; the exclusive advances and progresses in association with the world wide marble industry are presented within a global perspective and the current state of the Marmara Island marble in the world marble industry is determined and discussed.
