Shopping today has become the most popular social activity. Shopping phennomenonhas changed within time together with the changes in the society and turned into a social experience rather than an actionjust satisfying needs. Zukin defines the shopping as a social activity that people do when they go out. Together with shopping, shopping areas are placed in the center of our lives. In these shopping areas that the products are presented to people's individual liking, visual perception is important and the most timportantfactor which affects the visual perception is lighting. Moreoverlighting orientatepeople's actions by modulating the shopping area and products that are presented in it. But it is not enough to evaluate the lighting in a shopping area only according to its visual comfort conditions or only visual perception conditions. In a period when depletion of natural energy sources has started, energy efficiency is as important as visual perception, when analyzing the lighting system of shopping areas, which cause huge amounts of energy consumption by their lighting system. In this study, different lighting systems in shopping areas are evaluated according to the users visual perception, visual comfort requirements and energy efficiency. Even if the notions connected with architecture like; time, context, culture, art and ethics, make it hard to define the architecture, these actually show that the architecture is related with human and it also changes by human needs. According to this idea it is important to consider the connection between shopping experience and shopping area design. İri and İnal stated that all the pysical factors like; architecture, display design, air conditioning, smell, sound and light can change the customers visiting duration in a store and can orientate impact the buying decisions.  Personal experiences are directly connected with the perception. Shopping area and the perception which is created by the shopping areaimpacts the majortiy of the shopping experience. At the shopping areas, this shopping experience guides users to shopping and buying decisions. Among the factors that impact the shopping experience are; customer's interaction with the shopping space, creation of curiosity, spreading out a positive energy, the atmosphere, creating a unifying bond between shopping are design and marketing of the products, establishing a unique concept, setting up pricing according to the perceived value and and creating the environment with ease of access Architectural area perception is created with depth perception, motion, form, color, and their interaction. Barr states that light is the catalyst that can convert a texture to a finished architectural surface. With the effect of light, atmosphere in the place can change, the desired effects can be enhanced, motion and viability can be created in the space. The lighting can be examined as the combination of light and architectural environment. Lighting in a place, is one of the most important component impacting the visual performance of a user in that place and also the user's visual perception related with that place. It impacts the way we perceive the environment in harmony with the architectural geometry, the way we evaluate and determine our responses to the environment. Moreover lighting provides visibility of the surrounding objects, tissues and texts. Therefore, the quality of visual action taking place in a space is directly related to the lighting in the place. The objective of lighting in shopping venues is to ensure that the products are exhibited to be perceived by consumers in the best way to capture their interest. As lighting may alter the perception of space or of a product, it is one of the most important parts in the shopping area design. In this context, the lighting systems have been studied within the shops of the same brand with the same design concept but only with different lighting systems. Surveys were conductred to evaluate user perception and simulations wereexecuted to evaluate the energy efficiency of different lighting systems used. In the Sample Store-1 LED fixtures are used, whereas in the Sample Store-2 metal halide and compact fluorescent fixtures are used. The simulationswere done by using the Relux Pro program to calculate the average illumination level, the average uniformity values and the total energy consumptionfor both general store area and display areas. The values for these two stores were compared with each other. In the sample stores, to define the average illuminance level and the uniformity values, vertical reference planes created in front of the shelves and horizontal reference planes created on the display areas. For the Sample Store-1, calculated average illuminance level at the display area and cash point area is 1430 lx, the power consumed per unit area is 21.39 W/m², the total power consumedis4240 W. For the fitting room area calculated average illuminance level is 545 lx andthe power consumed per unit area is 13.78 W/ m².For the Sample Store-2, calculated average illuminance level at the display area and cash point area is 1320 lx, the power consumed per unit area is 25.61 W/m², the total power consumedis4620 W.For the fitting room area calculated average illuminance level is 330 lx, the power consumed per unit area is24.22 W/ m². Although according to the values specified at the standards; the average illuminance level should be 300 lx at the clothing stores, in both stores the average illuminance levels are higher than that. Even though at the sample Store-2 the average illluminance level is lower, the total power consumed is higher. At the sample Store-1; the uniformity value is 0.34 and at the Sample Store-2 the uniformity value is 0.08. Both stores can not provide the recommended value, 0.66, for the uniformity. Reference planes on the display areas are created to calculate the uniformity value. For the selected two display areas at the Sample Store-1 uniformity values are 0.80 and 0.66. Also for the Sample Store-2uniformity values on the two selected display areas are 0.39 and 0.30. According to the values specified at the standards; the uniformity value should be between 0.66 and 0.83at the clothing stores. It also seen that at the Sample Store-1 uniformity values are more close to the required values that specified at the standards. The survey questions asked for the store space and the lighting systemwere grouped in order to determine lighting system's conspicuousness in the store, the effects on the product perception and visual comfort conditions. The questions concerning the lighting system were also groupped according to the store sections;to the employees and customersquestions asked about product perception and visual comfort conditions in these sections such as display areas, fitting rooms and payment points. The survey showed that the store that LED lamp fixtures used had better results in terms of illuminance valuesfor shelves, hanging space, the fitting rooms and the payment points. With the simulation study, it was also seen that the values in this store were closer to the required values as specified in the standards, and energy consumption was found to be lower. However it is remarkable that for both of the stores the average illumination values are much higher than the recommended values in the standards.
