Abstract
Distortion is any change in a signal that alters its signal waveform or the relationship between its various frequency components. Measurement of distortion more accurately becomes essential in communication and electronics with the rapid growth of technology, today. Presently, there is a growing interest in synthesizing current-mode circuits. In this study, a wave analyzer circuit, uses current conveyors as a basic building blocks, is presented. Since current conveyors operate in current mode, they have been received significant attention because of their signal bandwidth, larger dynamic range, greater linearity, simpler circuitry and lower power consumption compared to the voltage- mode circuits. The primary advantages of the proposed, wave analyzer can be summarized as follows: - Operation at high frequencies, - If it used in distortion measurement high selectivity in distortion measurement (minimum distortion level to be measured is %0.01), - High linearity of the analyzer circuit (distortion added to the measured distortion is very small), - The simplicity in design of circuit (this makes the wave analyzer attractive for realization in instrumentation electronics). The proposed wave analyzer differs from classical wave analyzers by measuring the desired harmonic and the fundamental frequency at the same time and gives their ratio at the output. To verify these advantages and superiorities, a detailed theoretical analysis is given, as well as some simulations being performed with proposed harmonic analyzer. Simulation results compared with calculated results.
