Abstract
People have been used various construction techniques till now for their building needs. Abandoned because of the increase in house requirements and improvement of construction technology, masonry stone technique has been the traditional one by providing the easy use of abundant resources around. In this study, the properties of these masonry constructions, construction techniques and rules of building masonry stone houses according to regulations have been described. Before describing rules of building masonry stone construction, physical and mechanical properties and types of stone as a constructing material, and techniques of stone wall constructing have been explained. Also, examples of traditional masonry stone constructions, Beşkonak houses, that was built by using techniques special to region, are being researched through described physical and mechanical properties and earthquake regulations. As a result, Beşkonak houses which continued to exist for years and were built according to social values and contemporary physical conditions are still standing because of specialty of its workmanship and construction techniques though they do not obtain regulations. Modifying for the conditions of life and technology, these houses, built by a kind of technique which is not used now, can be the concepts for new designs today.
