MIXING CHARACTERISTICS OF SUSPENDED GROWTH SYSTEMS PART 1 : THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL

Abstract

Abstract General relationships applicable to a wide variety of bacterial mediated treatment processes are. developed using a number of continuous-flow-stirred tank reactors-in-series. Monod kinetics and mathematical models of reactors-in-series are used to represent the actual conditions resulting from varying degrees of axial dispersion and wastewater quality. A numerical method is then developed and effluent concentrations from a plug-flow reactor are expressed in terms of analytical results obtained from constant biomass assumption.
