Abstract

Abstract In order to reduce the cost of filling operations at the Uludag Tungsten Mine, the utilization of lime in place of cement as a stabilizing agent was investigated. The test program consisted of determination of the strength and deformation properties, including unconfined compressive strength, tensile strength, cohesion, and tangent moduli of elasticity of various tailing/lime ratios for curing times of 7, 14 and 28 days. The results reveal that the increase in lime content caused a significant improvement in strength with curing time. In conclusion, the use of lime as a substitute for cement seems possible.
