Abstract
The optimization of the operation of a complex water resources system comprising a large number of reservoirs is a difficult task. Several optimization models have been developed for this purpose, based on various mathematical programming techniques (Yeh, 1985). Dynamic programming (DP) excels others as the technique that best suits the problem of finding the optimal operating rules of a reservoir system (Yakowitz, 1982).
