Abstract

In this study, interface region of fluid flow overlaying a saturated porous layer is investigated experimentally. Measurements have been conducted by using Digital Particle Image Velocimetry (DPIV) to obtain global velocity profiles. In this investigation, experiments were performed to determine the velocity profile at the interface for three different porous medium modeled by uniformly distributed circular, square and diamond rod bundles. Permeability of periodic arrays of rods with different cross sections is determined by a new analytical method. Slip coefficients are determined by means of experimental results and calculated permeability values. It is found that the velocity gradient and the slip velocity at the interfacial region was affected by the cross sectional geometry of rod bundles.
