Parçalanan Kentsel Dokuda Yeni Bir Mekansal Oluşum: Tampon Mekan

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Mübeccel Kıray’ın tampon mekanizma nosyonundan devşirilerek oluşturulmuş tampon mekan kavramı, kentsel mekanda zıtlıkların meydana getirdiği gerilimleri yumuşatan ve kentlerde yeni ilişkiler oluşturan bir mekan formu olarak tanımlanmıştır. Tez kapsamında bu yeni mekansal oluşumu ortaya çıkaran küresel kentsel koşullar incelenmiş, kentsel çağ kentlerindeki hızlı kentleşme, kentsel mekanın yapısında gerçekleşen değişimler ve kentlerin güncel sosyo-fiziksel durumları ortaya konmuştur. Tampon mekanizma kavramının kentsel durumların uzantıları ile beraber düşünülmesi, bu mekanizmaların kentte mekansallaştığı durumların keşfedilmesine önayak olmuştur. Tampon mekanizmaların kentsel mekana yansıması ile tezin temel konusu olan tampon mekan kavramı oluşturulmuştur. Çalışmada “arada” mekansal bir oluşum olarak tasvir edilen tampon mekanların kentte filizlendiği ortamlardan, bu mekanları yaratan gündelik yaşam pratiklerinden, bu mekanların oluşumunu mümkün kılan aktörlerden ve kentte oluşturdukları yeni kamusal alan potansiyellerinden bahsedilmiştir. Tampon mekanların varlığı, İstanbul metropolünde gözlemler yapılarak keşfedilmiş; kavram, bu mekanlara İstanbul üzerinden verilen örneklerle somutlaştırılmıştır.In this study, the concept of buffer mechanism is derived from the notion of buffer mechanism defined by Kıray. The concept of buffer place is defined as the place that smoothens the tensions that are caused by the contrasting elements of the city. In the thesis, the urban conditions that develop these places are clarified, the rapid urbanization, the changes in the urban places and the contemporary socio-physical situations of the urban age cities are examined. As the notion of buffer mechanism is considered within the urban conditions, the discovery of the places where they are embodied becomes visible and the concept of buffer places arises as the main theme of the thesis. In the study, the places where the buffer places are blossomed, the everyday life practices that create these places, the actors that produce the places and the new public space potentials that are produced by the buffer places defined as an “in-between” spatial formation are discussed. The existence of these places are discovered by the observation that is made in the city of Istanbul and are embodied by the given examples form Istanbul.
