Türk Modernleşmesi Ve Mimar Seyfi Arkan Özelinde 1930 – 40 Yılları Türkiye Mimarlığı

Abstract

Bu çalışma, genelde, Batı modernitesi ve mimarlıktaki dönüşümlerini, özelde, Türk modernlik projesinin düşünsel arka planını ve modern mimarinin ülkeye girdiği 1930-40 yılları arasını, kategorize etmeden, kavrama ve anlamaya yönelik ve bir araştırma çerçevesi oluşturmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Modern kavramının arkeolojisinden başlayan çalışma, modernitenin orijini konusunda da Rönesans hümanizması, reform hareketleri, 17. y. yıl bilimsel devrimler, rasyonalist felsefeler, 18. y. yıl akıl ve eleştiri çağı ve ardından endüstri devrimiyle 19. y. yıl ve 20. y. yıl başlarına dek uzanmaktadır. Bu düşünsel /entellektüel arka planın, Batı mimarlığındaki uzantısı olarak ise yine 17. y. yıla, klasik mimarlık anlayışının sorgulanması ve demistifikasyonundan başlanarak, 20. y. yıl başı avangard hareketler, modern mimarlık hareketinin kent, konut, üretim ile ilgili boyutlarından 1930 lara ortodoks, bilimsel ve biçimsel bir uluslararası usluba dönüşümüne kadar izleği irdelenmektedir. Sonraki bölümlerde ise 19. y. yıl ikinci yarısından itibaren başlayan Osmanlı-Türk modernleşme hareketleri, aydınlanmacı düşünceler ve nihai formunu bir İmparatorluktan ulus-devlete geçiş sürecininde yaşayan “çağdaş muasır medeniyetler” ütopyası ile, elitler tarafından yukarıdan aşağıya empoze edilen, radikal dönüşümlerin yaşandığı Cumhuriyet döneminin düşünsel arka planı ele alınmaktadır. Bu düşünsel arka planın izdüşümleri olarak ise 1930-40 yılları arası modern mimarinin uluslararası uslup formunda ülkeye girişi irdelenmektedir. Seyfi Arkan ise bu dönemin meteorik bir mimarı olarak, bir modernist duruş, bir profil bağlamında ele alınmaktadır.This study aims to investigate the relationship between the modernity and architectural changes in the West in general and the intellectual background of the Turkish modernity project with its relation to modern architecture, which appeared in the country in the years of 1930’s and 1940’s. The study first investigates the origins of the notion ‘modern’ within the contexts of Renaissance humanism, reforms, 17th Century scientific revolutions, rationalism and criticism in the 18th Century, followed by the industrial revolution in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. The reflections of this intellectual background on architecture are discussed in the contexts of the 17th-20th Centuries: From the questioning of the Classical architecture in the 17th Century, to the avant-garde movements in the early 20th Century, within the fundamental themes such as the city, house, production, and to the orthodox, scientific and formalistic developments of modern architecture in the 1930’s known as an international style. The second part of the study is dedicated to the Ottoman-Turkish modernity movements starting in the second half of the 19th Century, with its intellectual background of the Republican Era, with radical changes imposed by the elite from the top to the bottom, with the utopia of reaching the contemporary developed civilizations, its final form appearing in the nation-building period after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. In this intellectual background, the emergence of modern architecture in the 1930’s and 1940’s is discussed. Seyfi Arkan is analyzed as one of the most important representatives of modern architecture of this period.
