Liquid Seeping Into Porous Ground

Abstract

This work constitutes an initial theoretical study of spills of liquid on porous ground. A flat, homogeneous terrain which is uniform in porosity and permeability is considered. It is known that, when liquid is spilt on porous ground it will seep downwards through the ground. In this paper, this downward motion is examined and an estimate of a “seep in time” by means of a simple one dimensional calculation is given.
