Abstract

Abstract A comparison of conventional luminescence and laser-excited fluorescence spectrometry of the Ln+3-thenoyltrifluoroacetone-trioctylphosphine oxide (TTA-TOPO) system has been carried out in hexane solution for Eu +3 and Sm +3. The maximum excitation\emission wavelengths were 339\613 nm and 339\641 nm for the europium and samarium complexes, respectively. The limits of detection (LODs) were 6.0 ng/L for Eu +3 and 180 ng/L for Sm+3 with conventional fluorescence, and with laser-excited fluorescence using a 325 nm He-Cd laser, LODs were 7.0 and 47 ng/L for Eu+3 and Sm +3, respectively.
