Agglomeration in lignite ash flotsam- and jetsam-rich systems

Abstract

Abstract In a fluidised bed of lignite ash and sand, the ash may behave as flotsam or jetsam, according to its particle size. The agglomeration behaviour of flotsam- and jetsam-rich systems differ immensely. This behaviour has been investigated by the use of differential temperature measurements in the active bed and freeboard. It is found that the spatial and temporal limits of agglomeration are determined by the extent of segregation.
