Autonomous Machines And Machine Ethics: Can Autonomous Cars Be Considered As Moral Agents?

Abstract

Autonomous machines are becoming more and more involved in our lives. By interacting with their environment, these machines are able to perform certain tasks without human intervention. With this ability, they are used in tasks requiring human labor in many sectors. Driverless cars, for example, are expected to reach a level of autonomy that enables them to perform a journey without any need for a human being in the near future. Autonomous machines while performing a specific task are making specific decisions for each of their actions. It is very important to ensure that the machines can make "right‟ decisions since the consequences of their actions may affect human beings directly. Therefore, it is important that the autonomous vehicles on the traffic act ethically when faced with a conflict.Günümüzde otonom makineler hızla gelişiyor ve makine zekâsı birçok sektörde insan faaliyetlerinin yerini almaya başlıyor. Makinelerin arttırılan özerklik seviyesi ile bir insan müdahalesine gerek kalmadan belirli bir komutu başından sonuna kadar gerçekleştirebilecek sistemler hedefleniyor. Nesnelerin interneti ile makineler kendi aralarında iletişime geçmeye başladı bile ancak hala insanların dahil olduğu kritik senaryolarda makinelerin nasıl davranması gerektiği kesinleşmiş değil. Sürücüsüz otomobil üreticileri gelecekte trafiği daha güvenli hale getireceklerini iddia etseler de, geleneksel trafik sistemindeki otonom otomobiller şu an için çözülmesi gereken problemler yaratıyor.
