The use of alternative fuels is one of the most applied methods to overcome exhaust emission problem. But the cost and the complication of conversion of current diesel engines to alternative fuels has been the most challenging obstacle before these investigations. Especially, injecting gas fuels such as LPG and NG into gasoline engines, which is one of the most applied conversion process, or enforcing diesel engines to operate in lower compression ratios with these kind of fuels, mostly, results worse performance and emission characteristics than its current version. MR-Process which has a shape of “8” on the piston symmetry axis results both the stratification of air-fuel mixture and elimination of knocking with the help of twin swirls rotating opposite directions but with the same momentum provides the possibility of conversion diesel engines to gas fuels maintaining its compression ratio. As an application of this process, a novel combustion chamber, named as MR-2, has assembled to a diesel engine whose performance and exhaust gas emissions measured while running with LPG. In this study, the results of this measurement and the early-proposed thermodynamic model of twostage combustion mechanism, which modified for LPG, have compared. In conclusion, it is realized that LPG can operate in high compression ratios (ε>12) and lean air-fuel mixtures (λ>1.0) without knocking and the exchange of diesel and LPG between each other in this way is more economical and much less complicated with better performance compared to other methods.
