Photoinitiated Zwitterionic Polymerization of Alkyl Cyanoacrylates by Pyridinium Salts

Abstract

It is shown that the irradiation of ethyl cyanoacrylate containing anthracene and N-ethoxy-2-methylpyridinium ions in CH 2 Cl 2 initiates anionic polymerization. The initiation step involves addition of photoreleased 2-picoline to the carbon-carbon double bond of the acrylate monomer.
