Abstract
This study attempts to better understand the seam grinning behavior of four thread overlock seams (stitch type ISO 514, seam type Ssa-1, superimposing two plies of material) on knitted fabrics under the influence of repeated extension and recovery. The effects of the mechanical properties of the fabrics, the sewing threads, and the stitch properties on the amount of seam grinning are experimentally investigated and statistically analyzed. A bivariate correlation analysis reveals that an increase in knitted fabric rigidity and sewing thread extensibility, as well as a decrease in stitch density. results in an increased amount of seam grinning.
