Abstract

In this paper, a novel spectrum sharing protocol with two phases is proposed for cognitive radio networks where two primary users bidirectionally communicate by the intermediate of a secondary transmitter acting as a full-duplex decode-and-forward relay while transmitting a new data packet to its own receiver at each signaling interval. In the first phase, successive interference cancellation technique is applied at the secondary receiver to detect its own information and then that of the primary users to subtract it in the second phase to obtain its own information. Analytical expressions for the outage probabilities of primary and secondary users are derived and the results are approved by computer simulations. The advantages of the proposed protocol compared to the two-way non-cooperative direct transmission and the cooperative full-duplex amplify-and-forward cognitive relaying cases are pointed out.
